Witchy Wednesday: Winter Solstice

December 18, 2024 - Sun in Sagittarius, Moon in Leo (fire, fire)

If you haven’t celebrated the Winter Solstice or Yule before, know that this is one of the oldest pagan holidays that there is, and that when you connect to it, you are tapping into a collective energy of celebrating the return of the light that spans thousands of lifetimes…

You will need a candle and a lighter or matches.

First, cast a circle or create sacred space as you wish. Invoke/invite any beings of light, love and compassion that you work with regularly or that resonate with you, such as Jesus, Buddha, Quan Yin, Amaterasu, etc. as well as any ancestors, angels, guides, and more.

Light a candle and imagine that it is connected to the sun. Feel all these light and energy beings enjoying the light of the candle with you, and then--blow it out! Pause in the darkness, and feel into the generations of humans who have also felt the darkness, the fear of the loss of light, and the uncertainty of its return.

Pause in this space, tuning in to the beings that guide others by light (and who are present all around and within you now). Search inside yourself for the same flame burning deep within you. See how you, too, also carry that light for all others to see, and you can guide the light back into the world!

Call upon that internal light, see it coming through your heart and into your hands, and re-strike a match/ignite the lighter. Say “with this flame from inside my heart, I ask the eternal sun to return, to allow the turning world to feel the presence of the life-giving light.”

Re-ignite the candle, and bask in its dancing light. Tune in to how the sun will only grow brighter day by day from this point on until the summer solstice. Reflect, too, on how you add brightness to the world by channeling this light and radiating it out everyday to all who meet you. Close out the circle/sacred space as you choose.

Happy Winter Solstice!

Blessings,

Amy
